Nicola has been a leading fund manager in the City of London for
over twenty-eight years.
During that time, she has set up and managed a number of
investment businesses.
Nicola was educated at Balliol College, Oxford and began her
career in the City in 1983 when she joined SG Warburg, which was
then one of the leading merchant banks. She worked in the
investment department, which eventually became Mercury Asset
Management, and was appointed a director in 1989. In 1991, she
moved to Morgan Grenfell Asset Management (the UK institutional and
private-client business) in 1992. During her time in this role,
assets under management increased from £4 billion to £22.5 billion.
In 1997, Nicola set up SG Asset Management (UK) for the French Bank
Société Générale with Keith Percy, with whom she had worked at
Morgan Grenfell. Their target of raising £5 billion within five
years was achieved in two years, and funds under management reached
£7 billion a year later. In 2004, Nicola set up Bramdean Asset
Management LLP with Sir Derek Higgs. The company ran a number
of alternative investment mandates and the fund-of-funds business
was sold to Aberdeen Asset Management at the end of 2009. Nicola is
also the chairman of Rockpool Investments LLP.
